"Valhalla" (October 2013)
12" x 24" Transfers and Acrylic on Wood

Divination 2.0

"Divination 2.0" (October 2013)
24" x 36" x 2" Transfers and Acrylic on Birch Panel

The first of the 24" x 36" illustrations for my thesis. It took me about 7 hours to rub all the paper pulp off of this thing, but it was totally worth it.

Gerald Gardner 2.0

"Gardner 2.0" (October 2013)
8" x 10" x 2" Transfers and Acrylic on Birch Panel

Thursday

Wickerman

"Wickerman" (October 2013)
16" x 20" x 2" Transfers and Acrylic on Birch panel

More from my ongoing thesis project on Witchcraft and the Occult

Be Safe

"Be Safe" (October 2013)
16" x 20" x 2" Collage, Acrylic, and Gouache on Textured Gallery Wrap Canvas

This was the first project for my Illustration IV class. The theme of the assignment was "Communication" and it had to fit in to our target market(s). Looking around Boston, I always notice the ads trying to take advantage of you and sell you a product or idea. Sometimes we get so overloaded with information that we will walk right by a more positive or human message.

Lost Ghosts Triptych

"Lost Ghosts 1-3" (September 2013)
3 - 9" x 12" x 2" Mixed media pieces on textured gallery wrap canvases

These pieces will be on display at this year's Big Collage: Dark Arts show on October 5th.

I Was Born A Wicked Man

"I Was Born A Wicked Man" (September 2013)
16" x 20" x 2" Transfers, Acrylic, and Gouache on Birch Panel.

Sometimes referred to as "the wickedest man in the world," Aleister Crowley was the founder of Thelema, a member of a number of occult societies, an acclaimed author, and it is rumored that he was a spy for British Intelligence. He was no friend of witches, but his role in the history of ceremonial magic earned him a place in my thesis project.

Palmistry 2.0

"Palmistry 2.0" (September 2013)
16" x 20" x 2" Transfers and Acrylic on Wood Panel

Another revisited piece from my ongoing thesis project.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

I just designed the poster for the movie screening at this year's Big Collage Halloween Meltdown. This year they are showing The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari with a live original soundtrack by The Infra-Men. This event also falls on the fifth birthday of Big Collage. I'm proud to say that I have had the honor of showing work in every Big Collage Halloween show (plus a bunch of others). I will have a few pieces on display at this year's Dark Arts show on October 5th. This October is going to be pretty epic.

The Mad Monk 2.0

"The Mad Monk 2.0" (September 2013)
16" x 20" x 2" Mixed Media on Textured Wood Panel

This piece was revisited for my ongoing thesis project. The previous version was composed entirely with ink and photoshop, and lacked the presence of the other mixed media pieces in the same series. I ended up using Collage, Acrylic, and Transfers on a textured wood panel to achieve a similar effect to the larger pieces produced for my thesis project. I am very happy with the results, and am planning different ways to achieve a similar effect with much larger pieces

Wednesday

Tuesday

Replacing Birds with Knives

"Replacing Birds with Knives" (June 2013)
9" x 15" Ink, Collage, and Photoshop

This piece was produced for my "Jazz and Art" Midterm. We had the option to produce a piece of art based on one of our readings as part of our midterm, so I focused on Tomi Morrison's "Jazz." I think it applies to the character of Violet, but I'm not going to get into why. I wrote a paper on it yesterday, and I'm kind of done explaining it. Either way, go check out the book. It's a great read.

Thursday

Children of the Night

"Children of the Night" (June 2013)
9" x 15" Ink, Acrylic, and Photoshop

A piece I made for the Monster Madness class I am taking this summer.  We have to present a piece of art (either ours or someone else's) relating to what we are studying this semester.  It was a hard choice between Dracula and Frankenstein, but Dracula won this time.  The visual descriptions and sense of dread every time the wolves appear provided plenty of inspiration.

Tuesday

Night Goat

Night Goat (May 2013)
9" x 15" Ink and Photoshop

The second piece from my illustration thesis.

Empty Vessel

"Empty Vessel" (May 2013)
18" x 24" Collage, Transfers, and Acrylic on Maple

This was my final project for my Experimental Illustration class. The assignment was to produce an illustration based on the topic of human cloning. I decided to focus on the "empty vessel" idea of creating something without a soul. Would this new being be an actual person, or just a machine that mimics the others around it?

Easy Living

"Easy Living" (May 2013)
12' x 24' Acrylic, collage, and transfers on Wood

With Teeth

"With Teeth" (April 2013)
24" x 30" Collage, acrylic, and transfers on textured canvas.

Sunday

Chief of Staff 2.0

"Chief of Staff 2.0" (April 2013)
11" x 17" Ink and Photoshop

I updated the Chief of Staff design from The Red Masks. I will have 11" x 17" prints of this available at Boston Comiccon. I'm working up a new Red Masks design as well, but I have been updating the early Red Masks drawings I did to fit with the look of the comic that I am working on.

Friday

3D Dementia Illustration

"Dementia" (April 2013)
9" x 15" x 5" Mixed Media Sculpture

This was an assignment for my Experimental Illustration class.  We had to produce a 3D Illustration based on a set theme.  The theme I chose was Dementia.  Focusing more on the confusion and loss of function associated with Dementia, I decided to personify it with a forgotten piece of machinery.

Saturday

That Old Evil Spirit

"That Old Evil Spirit" (April 2013)
16" x 20" 2 color screen print and gouache on Maple board.

This is the first finished piece for my thesis project. I have never worked with screenprinting and paint together on an illustration. It was a great learning experience, and is something that I will definitely keep moving forward with.

Witch Hunt

"Witch Hunt" (April 2013)
8" x 10" 2 color screen print on Birch panel

Monday

Inner Ear

"Inner Ear" (February 2013)
11" x 14" 2 color screen print on textured Masonite.

The entire Junior Illustration class at Massart are all working on projects inspired by Beethoven's Symphony no. 7.  This was my submission.  The Boston Symphony Orchestra are performing the symphony in March, and the best submissions will be on display in Symphony Hall the nights of the performances.  Everyone's work has been solid so far.

Thursday

Air Print

"Air Print" (February 2013)
11" x 14" Ink and Photoshop

I worked this piece up for an Illustration III assignment (scroll down for original).  It was suggested that I flip the canvas and see what it did for the pacing.  It reads much better now, and I plan on having 3-color screen prints of this piece at Boston Comiccon in April.

Gotham

"Gotham" (February 2013)
8" x 10" Series of 6 Silkscreen Prints (3 on Birch, 3 on Masonite).

This was my first time trying out a rainbow roll effect and screening right on to wood (without a textured surface). People seemed to dig these, so I may work up a larger run.

Man in Black

"Man in Black" (February 2013)
11" x 14" Cut Paper, Collage, and Acrylic on Illustration Board

This was an assignment for my Experimental Illustration Class. The assignment was to create a portrait of a historical figure/famous person/whatever with collage techniques. The materials used had to relate to the person themselves. I used photocopies of my Johnny Cash records. This was my first time using cut paper, and it was a lot different than I thought it would be. I might throw a little paint over it, but I kind of like the cut paper look.
